Piano Rebuilding Pianos
crafted years ago are some of the best pianos ever built. Instruments
constructed in the U.S. and Europe between the years of 1,900 and 1930 are
considered "golden era" pianos and are some of the finest pianos ever crafted.
Piano Manufacturing today has changed drastically over the last 30 years. There
are fewer newly manufactured pianos that meet the standards of the handcrafted
instruments of earlier years. New pianos that are hand crafted begin at $20,000
and can go up over $100,000. Unfortunately, most "golden era" pianos have
out-lived their life expectancy and have begun to experience ongoing
maintenance problems. However, because of their fine craftsmanship, older
handcrafted pianos can be rebuilt and restored to their original glory for as
low as 1/3 of the cost of a new handcrafted piano. Rebuilt
and Restored handcrafted pianos far exceed the quality and longevity of mass
produced pianos that are being constructed today but are typically twice the
cost as well. As a
result, many individuals are choosing to have family heirlooms rebuilt or
choosing to purchase a "golden era" piano that has been rebuilt by a reputable
technician.
In today's piano technical community, terms such as rebuilding and restoration are used with a variety of definition. In considering a rebuilt piano, it is important to have a firm understanding of these terms and how your salesperson or technician defines these terms.
